2022 Vegas Shoot Recap: Teenagers Take the Crown in Las Vegas

The 2022 Vegas Shoot returned to its high-stakes glory, bringing together nearly 4,000 archers for a weekend of precision and pressure at the South Point Hotel. The event culminated in a historic night of shootdowns where the youth movement officially took center stage.

🎯 Championship Compound Open: A 15-Year-Old Legend

In what many consider one of the most stunning finals in Vegas history, Bodie Turner became the youngest archer to win the Championship Compound Open title.

  • The Perfectionists: 23 men entered the grand shootdown after shooting perfect 900 scores over the three-day event.
  • The Shootdown: After eight ends of sudden-death shooting, Turner outlasted veterans like Mike Schloesser and Jesse Broadwater to claim the $50,000 top prize just one day after his 15th birthday.
  • Runner Up: Nick Kappers (USA) secured second place after dropping a nine in the final end.

🏹 Championship Compound Women

The women’s division also saw a teenage champion defend her title in record-breaking fashion.

  • Back-to-Back: 14-year-old Liko Arreola successfully defended her 2021 title, defeating pros Paige Pearce and Tanja Gellenthien.
  • Historic Scoring: For the first time in history, three women (Arreola, Pearce, and Gellenthien) shot perfect 900s to force a three-way shootdown.

Recurve & World Series Finals

The event also hosted the Indoor Archery World Series Finals on Saturday night.

  • Championship Recurve: Brady Ellison won his third consecutive Vegas recurve title with a score of 896.
  • World Series Champions: Felix Wieser (Germany) and Penny Healey (Great Britain) were crowned the elite recurve champions of the series.
